Pipes have been in use for a very long time. Even in older times, they were used to get rid of waste. Since then, plumbing has evolved. Over the past few years, the materials used to make pipes have become stronger and more flexible.
Pipes are used in a lot of houses. If you are moving into an old home, helping to build a new one, or remodeling, knowing about these pipes and how to use them most effectively is essential.
PEX (Crossed-linked Polyethylene)
Pex also called “crossed-linked polyethylene” is a cheap plastic tubing that is most often used for water supply lines. It keeps rust and corrosion from getting into the water, just like PVC pipes. Their flexible structure makes it easy to install on walls, ceilings, etc. They are also strong enough to handle the water pressures in your home. The red-blue color-coding of the pipes makes it easy to identify the temperature of the water, and for these reasons, professionals gravitate toward PEX pipes.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
The PVC pipe is made to handle high water pressure. This is why it can also be your house’s main water supply line. It is also easier to work with than the more traditional galvanized steel piping because it is lightweight. They are often used as part of the drain line for a sink, toilet, or shower. Its plastic tubing is perfect because it keeps the water from rust and corrosion. PVC pipe is also solid because it can do this. Unless they get damaged, PVC pipes can be used for a very long time.
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
(ABS) pipes are like PVC pipes in many ways, but they are easy to tell apart because they are black. They are used for drain pipes and pipes that carry waste away from homes. They’re also a little stronger than PVC pipes, as long as they are not kept in the sun and can warp when exposed to direct sunlight. ABS pipes aren’t used in houses as much as they used to be. This could be because they are noisier than plumbing pipes.
Galvanized
Even though galvanized pipes used to be common, they are no longer used in new buildings. Still, many homes use these pipes to bring in water and get rid of waste, and plumbers can use galvanized pipes to replace and fix them. The main problem with these pipes is that they rust and corrode easily, making the house water less good.
