Top 5 Places You Must See in Southwest, Florida

Looking for activities to do in Southwest Florida that are worthy of a high position on your bucket list? In this thorough list, we’ve got you covered! Southwest Florida is a unique region of the Sunshine State, with most of the year being sun-drenched and salty – an abundance of resources right on our doorstep.

It’s a gorgeous destination with rustic coastal beauty, fantastic fauna, white sandy beaches, lush mangrove estuaries, and the spectacular Everglades environment.

Add to that excellent shopping, restaurants, and other activities, and it’s no surprise that Southwest Florida is one of Florida’s most popular vacation destinations. The tourism-based economy definitely has a lot to talk about, but as the old adage goes, it ain’t bragging if it ain’t so! Where do you begin with so much to see and do while you’re here? With the Big SWFL Bucket List – activities to do in a certain location, must-see landmarks, and top places to visit.

1. VISIT SANIBEL ISLAND FOR SHELLING

If there’s one spot shelling fans and treasure seekers should go when they visit Southwest Florida, it’s Sanibel Island, where everyone can be seen doing the iconic Sanibel Stoop – stooped down in search of the next beautiful shell. It’s addicting SWFL fun!

2. GO ON A CATAMARAN CRUISE AT SUNSET

Sunset is a big deal along Florida’s Gulf Coast, and there’s no better place to see it than from the bow of a giant catamaran sailing softly and silently on the breeze. There are several ways to go out on the water, but nothing beats a calm sunset catamaran sail to immerse you in the island atmosphere.

3. ATTEND A TARPON FISHING TRIP IN BOCA GRANDE

There’s fishing in Florida, and then there’s tarpon fishing at Boca Grande, the Tarpon Fishing Capital of the World. You may have seen these men on TV, as well as the fisherman, attempting to catch one in their boat! This is the spot to go if you want to go saltwater fishing.

4. GO TO THE BEACH WITH YOUR DOG

Dogs are not permitted on most city and county beaches in Southwest Florida. If you want your four-legged companion to join you on the beach, travel to Dog Beach on the south end of Lovers Key in Lee County or Keewaydin Island in Collier County, two of the area’s few dog-friendly beaches.

5. SHOP IN NAPLES

If you enjoy shopping, you’ve come to the perfect location – Naples has some of the greatest shopping in Southwest Florida. The Waterside Shops on Venetian Bay, 5th Avenue South, Third Street South, and Mercado are all excellent selections in Naples.
